Sharing local plants with other QTN residents helps them and adds to the greening of our neighborhood. Local plants are also more likely to grow well. Perennials that need splitting or trimming can be put into extra plastic pots, containers or bags, watered to settle, and then offered to others during our QTN Plant Share Event for the month of May.
This year’s plant share will occur the weekend of June 4-5, 2022. We suggest placing plants at the end of your driveway or lot with signage and/or post on the QTN page. You may print and use the attached QTN sign for more information.
As you walk through the neighborhood, you may find other plants that you would like to have. We all benefit from sharing plants and perhaps plant knowledge as well.
QTN will promote the event so residents know what is happening. Plants that are not picked up or wanted can be disposed of in Green bins.
Some ideas for sharing include:
- Echinacea or Purple Cone Flower
- Rudbeckia
- Iris
- Phlox (many different varieties)
- Spring Bulb splitting (Lily, Canna Lily, Hostas, Gladiolas)
- Ground covers, such a periwinkle and thyme, and border plants
- Strawberry plants
- Raspberry stalks
- Rhubarb
